There are many people, like my sister-in-law, where living frugally is not a game, it is a fact of life because of poverty. We help them because it is the right thing to do, but I say this because I get really annoyed at those people of means who "deprive" themselves of things to make them feel oh-so-superior to other folks, and turn a blind eye to the fact that for many many many Americans, they live the real "simple life" because they have no choice:
Poverty is Not a Game

If you can be moved into paralysis because your four-slice toaster takes up too much space in your kitchen or you can't decide what kind of new car to buy, you are not poor and you are not noble for your self-sacrifice. You are selfish and blind to the world around you.
