Protecting Your Family from Smut

If you're like me, you want to protect your family against the more vial and revolting parts of the internet.  If you're not confident going into your router and blocking web addresses, or if you have a cable-company provided router that doesn't have those features, here's a nice piece of open source software to block unwanted sites:

K9 Web Protection

An alternative on all versions of Windows is to edit your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file and append the file by pointing the offending sites to 127.0.0.1 and you'll never see them again, but K9 is nice if you don't like to edit system files.

After all, life's too short to put up with the darker corners of the internet and the strange personalities that lurk there.

You mean you don't get the dog? I want the dog, not software...
